Yesterday I made a quick stop at a little Italian grocery store. I usually go there just to sniff...it smells just like Nonnie's house. I had no real purpose for being there so started browsing up and down the isles. The first thing in my cart was some fresh bread, then some good cheese....then I stumbled upon what I am now declaring as my new favorite thing. If you are from Pittsburgh you know Penn Mac, the great Italian grocery in the strip. This little store had some of their dipping oils. I decided to try the one called...."Sal's Family Secret Dipping Oil." I figured anything that Sal wanted to keep a secret must be good. I was right. Thank you Sal!
This dip reminds me of Nonnie and Papap's "hot mix". I'll tell you about that process some other time. Just know that it involves peppers, tomatoes, garlic and a lot of time. My favorite part of the finished product was the oil. Somehow...Sal figured out how to make this oil taste like it! Again...thank you Sal!
Half a loaf of bread later I was full and stinky. Please, please try this! It's available on-line for those of you not lucky enough to live near Penn Mac at www.pennmac.com Did I mention I would like to thank Sal?
