My little sister turned 30 yesterday!! (Happy Birthday :) As a big birthday surprise, my daughter and I flew down to see her on Hilton Head Island.
She had no idea...I will spare her the humiliation of posting the picture where she looks like the scream guy when she sees that we are in her house. There were lots of tears and hugs and smiles. We looked for gators in their backyard...
After the initial shock wore off...we got down to business. What would we eat? Now...I have never been to Hilton Head and did not realize that they have about 1 million restaurants on that little Island. We did our best to cram in as many as we could...I will share the best of the best with you....in case you go anytime soon...if not, just be jealous...very jealous!
First night we went to Truffles. A delightful restaurant with several locations on the Island. I was told that I must have the Truffle Mac and Cheese...as it only came with fried chicken tossed in a ginger sauce I as forced to begin what became a weekend of fried food. Yum.
We followed that up by a trip to Marley's Ice Cream where the girls have declared the best vanilla peanut butter cup ever. Not just on the Island...but ever. They were right... As a self declared chocoholic...this could convert me to the vanilla side of things.
By Saturday morning...things got serious. We had breakfast at what I will declare as my favorite place in South Carolina! In fact, it may rank in my top 10..ever. It was just so...me :) The Cottage in Bluffton, SC.
Yep...that's it :) You can eat inside and out....breakfast and lunch and even afternoon tea. I was in love with a restaurant :)
Please note: scones, granola and tea pots!!
So....what did we eat? Claire enjoyed the cornbread cheddar scones and cinnamon butter that came to the table when we sat down. Lynne had a lovely asparagus and brie omelet. Rebecca took advantage of her birthday weekend with an Elvis Panini...that's right...banana, peanut butter, honey and bacon :) And me....?
Eggs Benedict of course...did I mention that they were on top of a CRAB CAKE!!! Really...why didn't I think of this before! Also served with the best iced tea ever... just a hint of mint :) I was happy. They could of just left me there...
I Loved Bluffton...
Dinner Saturday night was at Rebecca's favorite spot. The Old Oyster Factory. They have exclusive rights to their own oyster bed. We had a sunset table looking out over said oyster bed...I then felt bad for the little oysters and could only eat one of them :( But...if seafood is your thing...go here! I hear they serve 1500 dinners a night during the season! That's a lot of oysters! We had a seafood feast that night!
Stuffed flounder...stuffed with crab...
We had a wonderful weekend with great food and wine and my wonderful sister and her wonderful friends.
Did I mention we went to the beach?
