- Neither the Kannoli nor the Kraut like to be hot OR why we didn’t cook: Let’s face it folks, it was a hot summer. The Kraut spent his days working and the last thing he wanted to do was come home to a hot kitchen and cook something spectacular. The Kannoli ran the three kids around like crazy and felt the same way. What this amounted too was a lot of tomato salads and sandwiches being consumed at both homes. We love those fresh veggies, and ate a lot of them this summer. But never quite made it to the “blog worthy” recipe with them. Fall is approaching and we are itching to get back into the kitchen and promise that there are a ton of great recipes coming your way!
2. The Kannoli and the Kraut are dog people OR what took up a lot of our free time had 4 legs and fur: We’ll start with the sad news first. The Kraut lost his best friend, a 13 year old Belgian Malinois, Boot a few weeks ago. The Kraut spent most of his time this summer devoted to giving Boot the best “last few months” that he could. And I can say without a doubt that he did. They were lucky to have each other.
The Kannoli, on the other hand, decided there wasn’t enough chaos at the house and got a Bassett Hound puppy at the end of June (oddly coinciding with the pause in the blogging :). Matilda June is a fabulous edition to the family, and at 4 months old now, the Kannoli is gaining back some of the time that was lost to house training, cleaning, playing, vet visits, food trials, puppy school, etc...There will be many more Matilda blogs to come. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Kraut won’t have some puppy stories of his own in the next few months.
3. The more “free” time you have the less time you have OR I’m so glad to be getting back to a schedule: I (The Kannoli) am lucky enough to work part time in the summer. I really pictured myself cooking large bbq’s, reading tons of books, having a spotless house, keeping up with the laundry, and blogging of course. Here is what I discovered: when you have three (or any) kids... time disappears! Literally. I don’t know what happens to it. I am suggesting that Morgan Freeman do his next “Down the Wormhole” about it. I believe there is an exponential equation that will prove this and am currently looking into it. I’m not complaining here, so please don’t think I’m one of those “I have no time” mothers. I had a great time with my kids this summer and was so lucky that I had that opportunity...I’m just saying...I think the clocks ran a little faster this summer!
I could keep going, but don’t want to harp on the excuses. The point is...we’re back. We are excited about some changes that we are making to the site. We are very excited to get into the kitchen and cook...our favorite time of year is approaching! (Fall...soups, stews, roasts, apples)...We hope to share a little more of ourselves with you. We are sorry for the “pause” and hope that you will come back to checking us out a few times a week. Let us know if there is something you want to see, or even “blog” about yourself. We love our guest bloggers! So please...stay tuned. There is more to come, and this time it won’t be in 3 months!
